CD10: Follistim Day 6 Response (Cycle #2)
Murphy threw a couple of curveballs today - I woke up late because of tossing and turning last night thinking of the “expired” Follistim (will post about this separately) and then I had to get some gas because DH did not replenish the car’s gas. So there I was late for a 7:30am ultrasound appointment, so I detoured for the blood draw because I didn’t want to be late for both. It was already 8:45 when I came in for my ultrasound appointment. Dr Hansard graciously squeezed me into her schedule - but not without asking me why I was late.
I have 1 “leading” follicle - yehey!!!

My stats progressed. See summary below:
Endometrial Lining = 7.1 -> 10.2
Right Ovary = 10: 7, 6/3, 5/5, 4 -> 6: 11, 10/3, 8, 7
Left Ovary = 9: 8, 7, 6/4, 5, 4/2 -> 5: 14, 10, 9, 8/2
Estradiol = 91 -> 380
(You can always go back to Follistim response in the top tabs to see the tabulation of all my stats summary from both cycles.)
Dr Hansard said she was pleased with 1 leading follicle instead of a lot of follicles of about the same size - which suggests that my response this cycle is more controlled (and again, despite “expired” Follistim for 5 days!). She expects a couple more to grow on the next few days.
Meanwhile, my next orders are:
- Again, 75, 75, 75 IU Follistim for the next 3 days
- BD on Friday 7/18 night
- Return on Sunday 7/20 for a response monitor.
- Probably trigger on Sunday 7/20 too.
- Potentially IUI on Monday 7/21 or Tuesday 7/22
A couple of quick notes:
- I may have some UTI because when I woke up this morning with full bladder, I pee’d slower than normal instead of the typical sudden release - you know what I mean!
- My underfoot has some tenderness. Not sure if that is a valid effect.
COST: $270 ($180 UltraSound and $90 Estradiol blood test)

I wish you all the luck in the world on this cycle, and really hope you don’t get OHSS. I had that my second IVF cycle, and it isn’t pleasant.
Thanks, Nic!
I do also hope this 2nd Follistim (plus the IUI) will work. I was just reviewing my DH’s SA and researching optimum stats and it can be depressing…but I still firmly believe that they are just numbers and it is God who makes pregnancies possible.
I just got back from your blog and it looks pretty! Enjoy your vacation, breath deeply and just let go. Not sure what your stand is on God but here’s something for you from the Book of Philippians 4:6-7:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
I hope the meds work for you and that you get your bfp this cycle!

Thanks, Jessica! We actually go for my first IUI tomorrow! Please pray for us.
Meanwhile, I just got back from your blog and I hope that you have gotten info re IUI cost from your RE. Just to give you an idea, ours cost $350 per IUI, $180 per sonogram, $90 per E2 test and the meds are $1000. Check the Cost tab on top for more idea on how many of each we had and project to have.
Have a great week!
