IVF Success for the Advanced Maternal Age-d?

Written by Arpee on September 25, 2008 – 12:52 am -

Prior to this week, I have not been blogging here since nothing much is going on at the infertility front. No medical activity, that is… but I am continuing to read infertility blogs of my fellow ladies.

Specifically, I have been trolling the blogs of my peers - those of the Advanced Maternal Age category. Or as Mel calls us - “Over 35 and TTC”.

Here are the most significant takeaways I have from all that reading:

  • Of the ladies who are of advanced maternal age as I am, I have not read of anyone who had a baby through IVF except Raggedy Ann (and if what I pieced together from her blogposts, she had her boy when she was less than 35 years old). It’s depressing not hearing about “success stories” from my peers. :(
  • I read of some ladies in the comments sections who mentioned that they did get pregnant without medical intervention. How I wish I am one of these ladies. But as you can see, my cycle counter is now at 50 days and my period has not arrived yet. Classic anovulation there for me!

I just want a ray of hope…

Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog. You left me some questions about IVF, etc. I just wanted to let you know that we ended up conceiving by oral meds. However, with that said, you mentioned that you wished you would be one of the ladies who were able to get pregnant on your own–and I wanted to offer you some encouragement. My husband and I were told by RE’s we would NEVER have biological children. We were also told that our only hope of being parents was to use donor eggs. Isn’t it ironic that God thought differently, and here we are almost 5 months pregnant on our own–with my eggs??? I know this time is trying. I suffered through IF for almost 5 years. However, I’m here to say that where science say’s it’s impossible, God says it is. Keep your chin up, and I’ll add you to my prayer list. I look forward to following your story.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. To answer your question, we did CGH testing because after 2 great cycles that failed, we needed to know more and find out if it was a genetic issue.

    Hey there,

So please check my March through August posts to read about my SIRM experiences. I’d be glad to talk about it if you have questions or if you’re interested … not sure if you’re considering them or what.

I’ll check out your blog … I hope that God blesses you with a miracle soon!

    Love,
    Polly

I found you on my IVF news feed.

I’m 39 and expecting my first baby conceived on my 5th IVF/ICSI attempt.

A girl at my antenatal group is also 39 and conceived first time with her ICSI and i have a friend who has 2 mth old twins conceived on her 7th IVF. She’s 37. Another friend is 41 - just shy of 42 and is 22 weeks pregnant after IVF 3.

It CAN happen - it’s just a matter of that good egg turning up.

I was treated at ARGC in London on try 5 where they did all the immune tests and gave me steroids and IVIg.

Happy to answer any questions - don’t give up hope!!

Elaine and Portia - Thanks for sounding off!!! There are miracles out there!!!

Christi - Did you pay for you CGH or are you part of the ongoing experiment?

Polly - Thanks for circling back! I will go back to your blog later and poke around those months…Thanks for your offer to entertain my questions!

Hey, I’m an AMA success story, although we did use donor embryos. Our IVF worked just before I turned 39.

Hi there! I’m here from ICLW, but see that I fit into the subject you are talking about too.

I am listed in Mel’s blogroll as “secondary infertility” but I belong in quite a few.

I am currently pregnant at 36 yrs old, from our first FET. My IVF ET was cancelled due to poor lining. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know! If you come over to my blog, in my IVF discussions start in my Feb 08 archive.

I have no answers for your questions, but lots of good wishes for this journey for you.

    The CGH testing costs $5,000….

  10. Arpee Says:

Thanks, Christi. That sounds like the same price as PGD/FISH too.

Did you do CGH on both egg and embryo?
